It started with a fall.  That fall was, in many ways, a gift.

The choices that led to the creation of MommyLoves grew from that gift.

I do not define myself solely as a mom, but motherhood is the largest part of my identity right now, and it influences all other parts  I bet the same goes for you if you are a parent!

The Event

I was 8 months pregnant with our second child when I fell and broke both my legs.  The pregnancy I chose…the broken bones I did not!

Lying in bed with an 8 month pregnant baby hotel for a belly, a pink cast up to the knee on one leg, a blue cast on the other, and no way to get to the bathroom in time without peeing all over myself became the brew with which I stewed my own depression.  I started seasoning that stew with some humor, and it quickly became much more palatable.  A vital choice that lead to an earth shattering realization!

The Realization

If I can go through labor and delivery, care for a newborn, toddler, husband and home (let alone myself) while hopping through life with the help of a walker, and looking like a bloated flamingo…I can do anything!

The Road Less Traveled

Creating MommyLoves was the first thing I did.

It was all about the fun and adventure that starts with a baby hotel in a woman’s belly!

Just like that baby that checks out of the baby hotel, MommyLoves grew, and experienced lots of growing pains.  I made lots of mistakes being a new mom, and a new entrepreneur, but so far none have been life threatening…well, there was that one…but MommyLoves survived thanks again to that amazing man I married, and now MommyLoves is celebrating our 10th BIRTHDAY!

There is no Roadmap

The confidence I gained by allowing myself to step off the cliff into an entrepreneurial canyon filled with jagged rocks, class 5 rapids and wide expanses of wild forests and peaceful gardens allowed me to jump off another cliff.

This jump landed me in an even more dangerous, wild and wonderful place where authors live and work.  Here is where I will stay, but I will certainly venture out on other trails and roads that start, and end with MommyLoves.

I am very glad you have landed on this website, and even more thankful you weren’t required to break both legs to get here.  Just like my journey and yours, the purpose and message of MommyLoves is unique.

Anyone touting any knowledge of internet business and marketing will claim that the creation of a successful internet business starts with the creation of a “niche” site.  One should not deviate from that niche, but should find that success triangle where your specific audience, your niche market and mass appeal meet.  Well, MommyLoves started that way, and I created other sites as my interests and business grew.  My focus and intent became too fragmented with that model, however, and I had another realization…

We pave the road as we travel

No one I know is static or stagnant.  One experience leads us to the possibilities of many others based on the choices we make. Thus, we pave our own road through life with our choices.  Once learned, a new skill/idea/behavior/etc. can then be expanded upon, but it cannot be unlearned.

Once I was married, everything from that day forward was painted with the colors and palette of marriage.  Once I became a mom, that palette grew to include darker and brighter colors I had never even imagined, but know intimately now.  Everything I do, write or say will use one of my marital and motherly paintbrushes, so why can’t MommyLoves represent just that…

EVERYTHING MOMMYLOVES!

We women claim motherhood as a large part of our identity, and it is probably the part with the biggest influence on everything else we do.  In 2012, 8.3 million businesses in the U.S. were owned by women exclusively, and they generated nearly $1.3 trillion in revenues, while employing almost 7.7 million people.  How many of those 8.3 million women business owners are moms and entrepreneurs, I don’t know, but I would guess more than half!  Because we moms are responsible for so many things that influence our families, communities and planet, it seems only fitting that Everything MommyLoves will be discussed here.  We can’t wait to read what you will contribute!
