Library Theme Baby Shower

Library Themed Books for Baby ShowerThere is an ongoing trend of 30-something women starting their families after starting their careers, and friends and family members can plan a baby shower that is just as unique as these future families.

A Library themed baby shower is a perfect way for a new mom who has no need for ten more newborn onesies and 50 disposable, landfill clogging diapers to show her unique style. This is especially helpful if the new mom already has a child, and doesn’t need many of the first-time essentials.

How to Plan a Library Themed Baby Shower

To plan a library baby shower, simply start by designing the invitations with  a children’s book theme. Ask attendees to bring their favorite children’s book as the gift.   A stuffed animal or action figure is also a good companion gift, especially if it compliments the book. Max from Where The Wild things Are by Maurice Sendak is a great example of a unique library baby shower gift.
In the invitation, tell participants to read some of their favorite children’s books as preparation for the games that will be played during the baby shower. This shouldn’t be a difficult requirement for most of the friends and family of the mom-to-be, because they usually have babies and young children of their own.  If the nursery for the new baby will be decorated with themes such as Noah’s Ark, or Winnie-the-Pooh, many of the decorations for the library baby shower will support the nursery decorations as well.

Baby Shower Games

Unique baby shower games can also be created using the library theme. One idea is to list excerpts or characters from some of the most famous books, and have attendees write down what book is being cited.

Here are some examples:

1. “I do not like them, Sam I Am.” from Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham.

2. Ask attendees, “Who is Kanga?” Answer: The mother of Roo from The Many Adventures of Winnie-The-Pooh, by A.A. Milne.

3. Ask the guests, “Who wrote about the adventures of Peter Rabbit?” Answer: Beatrix Potter.

Another game could be to have each participant list a character from one of their favorite children’s books that best reminds them of themselves. This is a fun way for newly introduced attendees to get to know one another.

The attendees could also try to guess what the expecting mom’s favorite children’s book was when she was a child, or list what children’s book character would most closely resemble the mom-to-be and/or dad-to-be.

Baby Shower Decorations

The decorations for the baby shower can mirror this theme also. Many bakeries will customize Baby Shower cakes, and a stack of books as a cake should be relatively simpler than a pacifier as a cake! With a little imagination, this type of cake should also be relatively easy to make by the Hostess herself. Favors can be those miniature theme books sold near the checkout counter at bookstores. Buying in bulk online can sometimes provide better prices. Balloons based on the animals and characters in the above-mentioned books should also be easy to find.

A journal that chronicles the baby shower with pictures from the event along with comments from the attendees will surely contribute to the uniqueness of the celebration, and will allow everyone to remember this library baby shower as the most unique baby celebration attended by all. Hopefully this will spawn other specialty Baby Shower ideas for the next in line with a bump.
