MommyLoves a LifeStory

One person’s LifeStory can usually be told from many different perspectives, using many different voices.  At the end of the life of a family member or friend, I am always shocked to discover the many different personalities that seemed to encompass the individual I thought I knew when I attend the funeral.  I am always thirsting for more stories and experiences from this new pool of personalities right when the celebration of the departed life is over, and we all go our separate ways.

When my grandfather died at the age of 80, 11 years ago, I was shocked to learn about his part as a U.S. Marine in the Battle of Guatalcanal, and the nickname of “Fruitcake” his fellow soldiers had given him because they couldn’t pronounce his last name – Fiorucci.  I was also shocked to hear about his stint with the Mafia in Chicago….don’t worry, Uncle Vido, I won’t tell!

When a parent or grandparent has died, the realization of the life that person had prior to the birth of the next generation becomes truly apparent.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have one place for the many voices that make up the LifeStory of a loved one?

LifeStory.com seems to be that place.

You can now create a LifeStory for anyone departed, and invite friends and family members to contribute their memories/pictures/videos to truly show the uniqueness of the life you are celebrating.

Interesting idea. The stories of generations are being lost as our families are scattered and with associations seeming to be less valued than in generations past. I realized a while back that the photos we sell are, for the most part, the only history of family members that families often have now. A picture might be worth a thousand words, but they don’t capture the story.

I agree, Christina ~ Many families no longer have the multi-generational aspect in the same town, so stories from ancestors are not shared.
Thanks for the visit and comment! Much appreciated!

This is a very interesting concept. I had a similar experience when my father died. Fortunately there were enough of his friends from different stages of his life I was able to contact in order to flush out his eulogy and obituary. Since my mother was contacted out the blue by an old Navy buddy, and several have now written her with their memories of my late father. Also, my brother sent some photos I’d not seen of my dad on Father’s day. This would be a great place to capture that information.
